Ross Murray Featured Runner of the Week

Ross Murray Featured Runner of the Week

For our 22nd edition of our favorite weekly post. We spotlight Ross Murray as our Featured Runner of the Week. The aim of having a Featured Runner of the Week is not to necessarily single out any individuals, but we want to feature runners who through their uniqueness may one day inspire you to run or reach for new running highs. Every runner has broken down their own barriers, whether it was the big obstacle to take the first running step or entering a race. Each runner will have their own story and to most these stories to others are very inspiring.

We welcome your feedback and nominations of runners who you feel deserve to be featured here. Our Featured Runner of the Week is selected at random on a bi-weekly basis. Every runner deserves to be mentioned and we will do our best to select a wide field of runners to bring their stories for you to enjoy.

Let’s take a few minutes and get to know Ross this week!

Ross Murray Featured Runner of the Week

Name: Ross MurrayRoss Murray Featured Runner of the Week

Age: 36

Where are you originally from? Ayr, Scotland United Kingdom

What is your favorite distance to race and why? 5k, I find that 5K races are lest competitive and more about everyone doing their best and just crossing the finish line. Plus it has the added bonus of being able to enjoy the area around you.

What originally got you into running? I am actually not a very sporty person never did anything at school unless it was part of the class. Then I joined the military and running was the way to stay fit for duty clear my head and chill when the times got hard or if I was overseas to take your mind off missing home and family.

What is your main motivation to keep going? The peopleRoss Murray Featured Runner of the Week around me!!! Thank god I found this running group not only do they keep you going and motivated but I hope and think I’ve found friends that I will keep forever. Plus wanting to make them proud and show that the effort they put in to support and guide you has paid off.

When you’re not running, what do you do? I’m in the Royal Air Force, so I can work a lot. But in my free time I love baking and cooking. Also I am a huge Sci-Fi geek and love all thing Star Wars or Trek, I love to read and try and keep myself calm. I also enjoy the company of Family and friends old and new.

What is your next race? Run Forest Run 5K in Beaufort was my last race. I had planed on a Half Marathon end of October but due to medical reasons I’m having to forfeit but ill be setting my sights on one in the new year.

Describe your perfect run: Mild weather nice little breeze,Ross Murray Featured Runner of the Week through beautiful countryside (Scotland of course) with the company of good friends and some good tunes to keep me going.

What piece of advice do you have for someone who is just starting out? Find a group as its easier to do it with like minded people and keep going, never push yourself to hard as it will make it a chore rather than an enjoyment. If dory was a runner I’m sure she would say, “just keep running just keep running”

What has been the single greatest thing you have gotten back from running? Friends

Goals for this year? Just to keep pounding the tarmac enjoy it and build up my distance and duration.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story this week Ross! #staygrounded #runbeaufort #runwithpassionGrounded Running Beaufort
