Isa-Lei Obermier – Grounded Running Featured Runner of the Week

To kick off Fall we are launching our 35th edition of our favorite weekly post spotlighting another great locally runner. This week's spotlight runner is Isa-Lei Obermier and I am thrilled to share her great story. The aim of having a Featured Runner of the Week is not to necessarily single out any individuals, but we want to feature runners who through their uniqueness may one day inspire you to run or reach for new running highs. Every runner has broken down their own barriers, whether it was the big obstacle to take the first running step or entering a race. Each runner will have their own story and to most, these stories to others are very inspiring. Isa-Lei Obermier – Grounded Running Featured Runner of the Week is a great way to kick off our weekend!

Grab a cup of coffee and get to know Isa-Lei a little better this morning!

Name: Isa-Lei Obermier

Age: 36

Where are you originally from? Lahaina, Maui (Hawaii)

What is your favorite distance to race? What originally got you into running? My favorite distance to race is the 5k cause I feel it’s the easiest to PR and really see how you are progressing I started running with Stroller Warriors Paris Island a year ago just to make friends when we moved here and also get some exercise. Little did I know it would become a big part of my life!

What is your main motivationIsa-Lei Obermier - Grounded Running Featured Runner of the Week to keep going? My motivation to keep going is my kids. I love to set a good example for them and keep them active. My 7 year old daughter just ran her first 5k in 34 minutes, I’m so proud of her! I want them to be able to look up to me and know I didn’t give up even if it was hard.

When you’re not running, what do you do? When I’m not running I love spending time with my family, powerlifting, and reading.

What is your next race? My next official race is the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Savannah but I’m pretty sure I’ll sign up for the Forrest Gump 5k before that one comes around.

Describe your perfect run: Isa-Lei Obermier - Grounded Running Featured Runner of the WeekMy perfect run happens in the Winter here when there is no humidity, haha. Early morning, a slight breeze and some shade are my favorite conditions and really enjoy running near the water to be able to enjoy a view.

What piece of advice do you have for someone who is just starting out? The best advice I can give to new runners is to keep going! Even if it’s hard and you want to quit, your body is capable of so much more than you believe. Don’t compare yourself to someone faster who has been running longer than you, just try to be a better runner than you were yesterday.

What has been the single Isa-Lei Obermier - Grounded Running Featured Runner of the Weekgreatest thing you have gotten back from running? Running has given me an amazing group of friends! I love being able to socialize with my besties while getting a great run in. The running community here in Beaufort is also so amazing and welcoming and I love being a part of it.

Goals for this year? My goal this year is to complete my first half marathon and to PR my 5k time once the weather cools down

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us this week Isa-Lei, we wish you the best of luck achieving all your upcoming goals!
