William Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Week

William Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Week

In our 29th edition of our favorite weekly post, we decided to kick off March with another great local runner, William Hohmeier and I am thrilled to spotlight him this week. The aim of having a Featured Runner of the Week is not to necessarily single out any individuals, but we want to feature runners who through their uniqueness may one day inspire you to run or reach for new running highs. Every runner has broken down their own barriers, whether it was the big obstacle to take the first running step or entering a race. Each runner will have their own story and to most these stories to others are very inspiring. William Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Week is a great way to kick off our weekend!

We welcome your feedback and nominations of runners who you feel deserve to be featured here. Our Featured Runner of the Week is selected at random on a weekly basis. Every runner deserves to be mentioned and we will do our best to select a wide field of runners to bring their stories for you to enjoy.

Let’s take a few minutes and get to know William this week!

Name: William HohmeierWilliam Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Week

Age: 29

Where are you originally from? I grow up in St. Louis, MO

What is your favorite Distance to race? Why? My favorite race would still be the mile even though I don’t race it anymore.  I like the simplicity of the splits into the challenging dynamic it brings to a distance runner with pushing your speed with endurance.  Plus it ends quickly.

What originally got you into running? There is two parts in this answer: 1) I watched my oldest sister running High School Track while I was in middle school and saw the joy and challenges it gave her. So that is when I decided I would do Track when I got to High School. 2) I did not make the soccer team as a freshman (Fall Season) so I turned around and ran Cross Country, and never really looked back after that.

What is your main motivation to keep going?  Partly it is job requirement to stay physically fit William Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Weekand additionally it is a HUGE stress reliever for me.  I’ve been running almost half my life and I really don’t have any motivation to change that due to the people I meet and the conversation I have about running.

When you’re not running, what do you do? When I am not running I get to enjoy my two dogs training me to playing fetch with them. Furthermore I am always up to watching movies, eating food and relaxing with my wife, Abby.

What is your next race? Next race…..Currently the only one I know I’ll be running will be the Marine Corps Marathon in Oct.  I am sure I’ll do some more local 5ks with one of my dogs to continue building a base, having fun with running, and enjoying the company that comes with those races.

Describe your perfect run: My perfect run would entail the group of friends from college running out on the country roads in Kansas where every mile is new dirt road and the farm dogs will join you for few miles before stopping and returning home.

What piece of advice do you have for someone who is just starting out? …. I try to avoid William Hohmeier – Featured Runner of the Weekadvice since everyone’s body and goals are different but when I am trying to tell people about running or “sell them on running.” I tell them I have never met a sad or depressed person at 5k or any other race. Running is fun and you get to make the most of it and no else can take that away.

What has been the single greatest thing you have gotten back from running? Realistically the single greatest thing I have gotten from running is the opportunities and doors it has opened because I defiantly would not be where I am today without running.

Goals for this year? Get back running sub 18:00 5ks, breaking 3:00hrs in the marathon, and run at least a mile a day for a year (streak started 1 Jan 2018)

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story this week William. We wish you the best this year in meeting all of your training and racing goals! #staygrounded #runbeaufort #runwithpassionGrounded Running Beaufort
