Kevin Green – Featured Runner of the Week

Grounded Running Featured Runner of the Week

Every runner deserves to be featured here! All have their unique attributes and stories. The aim of having a Featured Runner of the Week is not to necessarily single out any individuals but we want to feature runners who through their uniqueness may one day inspire you to run or reach for new running highs. Every runner has broken their own barriers, whether it was the first big obstacle to take the first running step or entering a race. Each runner will have their own story and to most these stories to others are very inspiring.

We welcome your feedback and nominations of runners who you feel deserve to be featured here. Our Featured Runner of the Week is selected at random. Every runner deserves to be mentioned and we will do our best to select a wide field of runners to bring their stories for you to enjoy.

This week we feature another amazing local runner that can be found running and racing all over the South East and continues to find himself on the podium and sometimes in costume! This week, let’s take a few minutes and get to know Kevin Green:

Kevin Green – Featured Runner of the Week

Name: Kevin Green SR.

AGE: 46

From: Wilmington, Delaware, Beaufort Resident since 1996

What is you favorite distance?

I love the Marathon. It requires the most amount of discipline and the greatestKevin Green - Featured Runner of the Week amount of planning and desire. I love this distance because you can never take this distance for granted. Conditions both external and internal can create changes at any moment in your race that require physical and emotional toughness.

What originally got me into running?

I found running to be a great way to spend time with my Father. I am forever grateful to my Father for introducing me to the world of strength and conditioning.  I originally used running to condition for Wrestling and Football. When I started my first job I met Mike Konoza (Carolina Sportscare and PT) and he introduced me to the marathon distance in 1991.

What is my main motivation?

I don’t feel the stress to keep running or racing. I run because I enjoy it, and I Kevin Green - Featured Runner of the Weekdon’t see it as a chore. Working at Carolina Sportscare and Physical Therapy, I find that when I am lacking the desire to run or even workout that interaction with patients that have a deep desire to return to the sport is motivating. Hearing their passion when mine is lacking is motivating.

I find motivation from the posts that people make on Facebook about their early morning and late night runs, seeing that random runner go past the office or house window.

When I am not running, what do I do?

Our area is such a wonderful place for active people. I love to kayak, participate in triathlons, Spartan race series, and volunteer with the American Red Cross as a CPR Instructor, and attending my son’s wrestling, matches, and Soccer games.

What is my next race?

March and April will be busy months for racing. The Hunting Island Biathlon and Adventure race March 11 at the Sands in Port Royal, Asheville Marathon March 12, Paris Island Triathlon March 18, April 8 Spartan Sprint Race, April 22 Superhero vs. Villains 5k in port Royal, and The Spartan Ultra-beast (marathon distance Spartan Race) Mt. Vernon NJ.

Describe my perfect run?

My perfect run has 2 versions the day that I hit all my numbers (just like I'm suppose to )with perfect hydration and nutrition practice. The other perfect run is one of those days that its too hot, too cold, too rainy, etc. but I run anyway. There is a feeling of accomplishment when I’m out on the road in less than ideal conditions and it still gets done.

What piece of advice do you have for someone just starting out?

Start with good equipment and with a group that has similar goals and similar Kevin Green - Featured Runner of the Weekpacing, or friend that is willing to run your pace. The last piece of advice for runners that I have is this: Running is an individual sport. Learning how to train yourself, is one of the most important things that each runner can do.

Goals for the Year:

PR Ironman Florida in Nov. 2017 and enjoy the act of racing and training.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story Kevin, you continue to inspire those around you and you should be proud of all your accomplishments! Keep up the great work and we wish you the best of luck this year! #staygrounded #runbeaufortKevin Green - Featured Runner of the Week
