Andrew Mooney – Featured Runner of the Week

Andrew Mooney – Featured Runner of the Week

This week is our 17th edition of our favorite weekly post. Andrew Mooney – Featured Runner of the Week is another amazing spotlight and we are honored to feature him here. The aim of having a Featured Runner of the Week is not to necessarily single out any individuals, but we want to feature runners who through their uniqueness may one day inspire you to run or reach for new running highs. Every runner has broken their own barriers, whether it was the first big obstacle to take the first running step or entering a race. Each runner will have their own story and to most these stories to others are very inspiring.

We welcome your feedback and nominations of runners who you feel deserve to be featured here. Our Featured Runner of the Week is selected at random. Every runner deserves to be mentioned and we will do our best to select a wide field of runners to bring their stories for you to enjoy.

This week we feature another amazing local runner that can be found running and racing around town. Let’s take a few minutes and get to know Andrew Mooney!

Andrew Mooney – Featured Runner of the Week

Name: Andrew Mooney Andrew Mooney - Featured Runner of the Week

Age: 33

Where are you originally from? Chicago, IL

What is your favorite distance to race? Why? 70.3 Triathlons because your challenged in 3 different aspects of fitness.

What originally got you into running? When I first got to Beaufort I needed to find a healthy outlet for my off time and running just seemed to fit the bill. I started with small distances and gradually worked my way up to the longer endurance runs. Now running and getting others out on the road has become an obsession for me.

What is your main motivation to keep going? My motivation is time, distance, and failure. I’m constantly trying to lower my times and increase my distance, unfortunately that doesn’t always happen but those failures are the driving force for me to work/train harder.

When you’re not running, what do you do? Spending time with my wife Andrew Mooney - Featured Runner of the WeekNicole, our two kids Giada and Luca and our lab Lilly. Without their endless love, support, and motivation I wouldn’t have been able to cross any finish line.

What is your next race? Panama City Florida Ironman in November 2017

Describe your perfect run: A 5 to 8 mile run at noon in the middle of summer is prime running weather for me.

What piece of advice do you have for someone who is just starting out? Set achievable running goals for yourself and once those have been achieved up the ante and challenge yourself again.

What has been the single greatest thing you have gotten back from running? The friendships and memories I have been able to make through long training runs and intense races are irreplaceable. Before I got into running I always saw it as an individual sport, I never realized how big this community is and the amazing support it provides to all those in it.

Goals for this year? Finish the Panama City Ironman under 12 hours.Andrew Mooney - Featured Runner of the Week
